Pies are pastries that can have savory or sweet fillings. Delicious pies are prepared in different ways in different countries and regions. Some people prefer a vegetable filling, such as chicken or meat, while others prefer a sweet filling. Fruitcakes are popular all over the world and are often served with ice cream.
Today we are going to talk about our favorite cake: apple cake. The combination of a delicious baked apple crust and vanilla ice cream is a masterpiece. This is the beginning of apple pie.
Each cake recipe consists of two steps.
- Prepare the cake batter.
- prepare the filling.
For the crust, you need the following ingredients.
- 5 cups of wholemeal flour
- 1 cup unsalted butter, cold
- 1 teaspoon of sugar
- a teaspoon of salt
- cold water with ice.
Mix the flour with the cold butter and cut into cubes. Add the sugar and salt and mix well, adding the cold water, until the butter pieces and flour crumbs stick together with the water to form a dough. If the mixture still seems crumbly, add a few more drops of water. Roll out the bottom and another piece of dough for the lid. Cover both rolled skins with a towel and place them in the refrigerator.
For the apple filling, peel the apples and cut them into long slices. Select apples according to the size of your pie pan or baking dish. For a medium-sized pie, you will need about 6-7 cups of all the apples. Add to the sliced apples ½ cup of powdered sugar, 1 teaspoon of freshly ground cinnamon, ¼ teaspoon of nutmeg, 1 teaspoon of lemon juice, and 1 teaspoon of butter. Mix everything together well.
Pour the cooled batter into a pie pan. Butter the pie pan and top with the apple filling. Then place the cooled bun on top of the filling and line the pie pan with it, folding the two crusts over the sides to completely cover the apple filling. Poke a few holes with a fork so the moisture can escape while it bakes. You can always crack an egg and brush the crust lightly with butter before baking. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and bake the cake for 15 to 20 minutes, until it is golden brown and smells like baked cinnamon apples.
Let the cake cool and serve with vanilla ice cream. The cake recipe can be tried with other fruits like strawberries, mango, oranges, or pineapple for a fruity taste.
